This is one of an occasional series of posts in which I squee about my childhood dream coming true. Feel free to skip past it if you hate that kind of thing. Conversely, if you're curious, you can read vol. 1 here and vol. 2 here. As you may already be aware, I've been tracking each stage in my publishing journey with the fervid enthusiasm of a starving literary wolf scenting a book-flavoured deer. And I hit another of those milestone moments the other day, because I received cover art. Not only that, I received choices. Now, before we go any further, I should probably admit that because I can't show you any of the images, this is going to be a horribly self-indulgent post. It's pretty much me saying, Wow! I've got lots of pretty things! They're so pretty! AND YOU CAN'T SEE ANY OF THEM. So if you're not OK with that, here's the tl;dr version: Darkhaven's cover is going to rock. You are now free to go about your day. For those of you who are still with me (and I commend your masochism), here's the deal. When you've wanted to be a writer since you were six, there are certain things you dream about. And one of them is what your books will look like. But in my imagination, I always assumed I'd simply be presented with a cover (albeit an awesome one) and that would be that. So to be given a whole bunch of covers and asked which one I liked best and if there was anything I'd change … well, it was amazing. And also a little scary. See, those of you who've been reading this blog for a while will know that I'm a bit, er, indecisive. And not very confident in my own abilities. (If I hadn't been picked up by a publisher, I'd still be rewriting EVERYTHING I'VE EVER WRITTEN.) Being asked to choose between several beautiful covers, and give feedback on them, was like a wonderfully enjoyable form of torture. But I did it. And I love my final cover so much that it makes me do a little dance inside every time I think about it.* If I could, I'd stick a giant version of it right here in this post, but until it's officially revealed I will have to make do with this: Because Tangled is one of my all-time favourite films. No lie. The reveal will be in early May, so you can let me know what you think then. I hope you like it, if not as much as I do, then at least enough to buy the book. Come on. I had to get that in there somewhere. * If you've been on my mailing list since the beginning, you'll know that I had some ideas about what the cover might be like. As it turns out, it's nothing like I imagined. None of the designs were. But actually, I love it way more than that phantom cover of my imagination. Which I guess is why I'm not a designer.
