Welcome to another instalment of my occasional Barren Island Books spin-off series! The rules remain the same: guests imagine they’re being exiled to a remote island with only five books for company, selected from the categories I give them. But the twist is these guests aren’t authors but fictional characters.
My interviewee this week is DS Joe Lamont, the hero of the paranormal crime novel Incarnate Justice by Juliet B Madison. The Psychic CID series is set in the future so this interview with DS Lamont takes place in autumn 2040.

My interviewee this week is Helen Wheels, narrator of 'Audi' – one of the stories in the newly released anthology Riding in Cars with Girls by Evangeline Jennings. Helen is a sixteen-year-old Londoner who – along with her best friend/partner Wendy – makes a living by rather unorthodox means, stealing cars and driving for a ruthless crime lord. But the girls have a plan to break away from it all by putting their unique skills to the test … It's February, and that means love is in the air. To celebrate, several Harper Voyager authors have set up dating profiles for the characters in their books. Suggest a match and you could win a prize! My interviewee this week is Grizelda the off-white witch, star of Have Frog, Will Travel – the latest and craziest instalment in the Banned Underground series by Will Macmillan Jones. I can tell you two things about Grizelda, which may or may not be related: one, she is definitely the smartest, wittiest and most entertaining character in the Banned Underground series; and two, she has a tendency to turn people into frogs if they say anything she doesn't like.
