Are you interested in an author visit for your school? I run a unique workshop based around the world of The Hive. Here's what it involves . . .
As well as being an author, I have 20 years' experience as an editor in educational publishing. I'm always happy to sign books and/or do a Q&A on writing, editing, publishing, etc. following the workshop(s).
I am based in Gloucestershire but able to go further afield if travel expenses are paid. I either charge a fee or request a minimum number of book orders, but this will vary depending on your school's circumstances and the length of visit. - 'Escape room' style murder mystery in which students work in teams, solving a series of puzzles to uncover the murderer
- Book and setting are relevant to the dystopia theme on the English curriculum
- Puzzles based around English language and information literacy skills (enhance the 'boring' bits of the curriculum without your students noticing!)
- Aimed primarily at Year 9 but also suitable for Years 8 and 10
- Can be adapted to run with anything from half a class to half a year group at a time
- The workshop takes an hour so multiple sessions can be run in a day

"Anna was incredibly generous with her time and worked with year 8 classes throughout the day, as well as meeting up with students to sign books at lunchtime. The group activities really engaged the students and they were incredibly focused at working together to solve the murder mystery task. The support materials used to uncover the murderer gave them an excellent insight into the world of The Hive as well as being a fantastic way to develop their reading comprehension and problem solving skills. Anna was very thoughtful in how she answered the students' questions about being an author and the process of writing and editing. Altogether, we had a brilliant day with Anna and greatly enjoyed her original approach to an author visit. Moreover, I read the novel with my Year 10 book club and they loved it. In particular, they liked the strong, female character of Feldspar, her relationship with Niko and all the twists and turns they encountered while solving the mystery.
