Barren Island Books character interview: DS Joe Lamont of Psychic CID

26/11/2015

Welcome to another instalment of my occasional Barren Island Books spin-off series! The rules remain the same: guests imagine they’re being exiled to a remote island with only five books for company, selected from the categories I give them. But the twist is these guests aren’t authors but fictional characters.

My interviewee this week is DS Joe Lamont, the hero of the paranormal crime novel Incarnate Justice
by Juliet B Madison. The Psychic CID series is set in the future so this interview with DS Lamont takes place in autumn 2040.

Welcome to an interview-with-a-twist in the Barren Island Books series! The rules remain the same: guests imagine they’re being exiled to a remote island with only five books for company, selected from the categories I give them. But the twist is, these guests aren’t authors but fictional characters.

My interviewee this week is Helen Wheels, narrator of 'Audi' – one of the stories in the newly released anthology Riding in Cars with Girls by Evangeline Jennings. Helen is a sixteen-year-old Londoner who – along with her best friend/partner Wendy – makes a living by rather unorthodox means, stealing cars and driving for a ruthless crime lord. But the girls have a plan to break away from it all by putting their unique skills to the test …

The Uncommon Character Interview

I was tagged to do this by Sam Dogra, an awesome author and brilliant artist who also happens to be a medical genius (go check out her blog). She got the questions here. And I've taken it one step further again, reframed the whole thing as an interview, and cut the list of questions by half (because I like to keep my blog posts on the short side). So now you know the history, I give you …

Barren Island Books character interview: Grizelda

Welcome to another interview-with-a-twist in the Barren Island Books series! The rules remain the same: guests imagine they’re being exiled to a remote island with only five books for company, selected from the categories I give them. But the twist is, these guests aren’t authors but fictional characters.

My interviewee this week is Grizelda the off-white witch, star of Have Frog, Will Travel – the latest and craziest instalment in the Banned Underground series by Will Macmillan Jones. I can tell you two things about Grizelda, which may or may not be related: one, she is definitely the smartest, wittiest and most entertaining character in the Banned Underground series; and two, she has a tendency to turn people into frogs if they say anything she doesn't like. We caught up with her on her way back from getting her, um,
vintage broomstick serviced for the hundredth time …

But the twist is, these guests aren’t authors but fictional characters.

My interviewee this week is Leah, the protagonist of the Worlds Apart series by Andrea Baker. We caught up with her shortly after her move to Little Virginia, Kenilworth, before the dramatic events chronicled in the Worlds Apart books began to unfold …

The rules remain the same: guests imagine they’re being exiled to a remote island with only five books for company, selected from the categories I give them. But the twist is, these guests aren’t authors but fictional characters.

My interviewee this week is Andee Tilbrook, the protagonist of Chasing Azrael – the first book in the Deathly Insanity series by Hazel Butler. Andee is a Gothic archaeologist with a very unusual ability: she can see ghosts. We caught up with her shortly before the start of the mysterious events related in Chasing Azrael …

Welcome to another interview-with-a-twist in the Barren Island Books series! The rules remain the same: guests imagine they’re being exiled to a remote island with only five books for company, selected from the categories I give them. But the twist is, these guests aren’t authors but fictional characters.

My interviewee this week is Anna Martoka, a key character in The Lokana Chronicles by Kay Kauffman. Anna lives with her fiancé, John, in the small town of Riverdale, Iowa, where she works as a projectionist at the local movie theater. Since moving to Riverdale she has been troubled by strange dreams, which she suspects may be connected in some way to the early childhood she doesn't remember. The only person who can answer her questions is her mother, who she doesn't get on with – but Anna is determined to find some answers.

The rules remain the same: guests imagine they’re being exiled to a remote island with only five books for company, selected from the categories I give them. But the twist is, these guests aren’t authors but fictional characters.

My interviewee this week, because I couldn't quite resist, is Alyssia Gale – the protagonist of my very own WIP Dawn Rising. Alyssia has lived in a home ever since the age of ten, when she suffered an accident that killed her parents and left her with severe memory loss. Now, at seventeen, she is experiencing increasingly dark and vivid dreams that threaten to overshadow reality: dreams in which she takes on one of four alternate identities in a completely different world. We caught up with her at Woodleigh House, the home where she's lived for nearly eight years …

But the twist is, these guests aren’t authors but fictional characters.

My interviewee this week is Lizzie Mosher, the protagonist of What the Town Knew by C.W. Farley (aka Emily McKeon). Lizzie is a widow with a secret – but in a small town, secrets have a habit of coming to light …
