Voyager Valentines: a matchmaking contest

2/2/2015

It's February, and that means love is in the air. To celebrate, several Harper Voyager authors have set up dating profiles for the characters in their books. Suggest a match and you could win a prize!
Voyager Valentines
Since Darkhaven hasn't been released yet, I'm giving away some of my favourite books. To enter, read the two dating profiles below (featuring two characters from Darkhaven). Then match either of them with a character from one of the other participating blogs and comment here to be entered into the giveaway. The winner can choose any two of the following paperbacks (or a £10/$15 Amazon gift card if you don't trust my awesome taste in reading material).

Many of the other authors are also running giveaways, so if you suggest matches for their characters, you'll have more chances to win prizes. The event runs until the end of February, so get matchmaking!

Dating profile: Ayla Nightshade

AGE: 18

JOB/CAREER: Does arguing with my father count as a career? I certainly spend enough time doing it.

WHAT YOU DO FOR FUN: Fly, when I can. I love flying.

GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: I have a lot of theoretical knowledge in a vast range of subjects, and virtually no practical experience at anything. So I'm either highly accomplished or utterly useless, depending how you look at it.

MOST TREASURED POSSESSION: My brother Myrren. Not that I think I own him, you understand. I just don't care a great deal about objects. Myrren is the only part of my life I'd really miss if it were gone.

IF YOU WERE AN ANIMAL, YOU'D BE: I am an animal, of a kind – at least some of the time. I can take on the form of a winged horse.

FIRST CRUSH: I'd rather not say. It was a terrible misjudgment on my part.

FAVOURITE CHILDHOOD MEMORY: Any occasion when my mother was there. I miss her.

EVER BEEN IN A FIGHT OR PRISON? No. My father won't even let me learn how to defend myself, which is frankly ridiculous.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF CHILDREN? I try not to. If you had a family situation like mine, you'd understand.

GREATEST FEAR: That this is it. The rest of my life. Forever failing to live up to my father's expectations, and nothing ever changing.

Dating profile: Tomas Caraway

AGE: 23

JOB/CAREER: I used to be a member of the Helm in Darkhaven, which meant I was part warrior and part bodyguard, I suppose. Now I'm … sort of in between jobs.

WHAT YOU DO FOR FUN: 'Fun' is a strong word. I spend a fair bit of time in the vicinity of inns.

GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: Being accepted into the Helm. Of course, that also turned out to be my greatest failure, so …

MOST TREASURED POSSESSION: Used to be my sword, but for obvious reasons – namely the lack of functional blade – that's no longer the case. Still, it's not as if I own much else.

IF YOU WERE AN ANIMAL, YOU'D BE: Probably a chicken. Even when its life is over, it's too stupid to give up and die.

FIRST CRUSH: Ayla Nightshade. Of course, that was before I failed her in the worst way possible.

FAVOURITE CHILDHOOD MEMORY: In retrospect, I can't think of anything that wasn't good about my childhood. Of course, I spent most of it dreaming I was somewhere else. Funny how that works.

EVER BEEN IN A FIGHT OR PRISON? Usually both. Depends how the evening goes.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF CHILDREN? I always planned to have a family. Don't see that happening now, though.

GREATEST FEAR: It's already come true. Now I just have to live with it.

Now, here are the other participating authors to visit:

Fun! I'd set up Ayla with Brooke Johnson's Petra. They seem like they might have something in common and both could use a friend.

My match in this would be Tomas Caraway with Princess Gwendolyn Mostfair from Happily Never After by Harry Heckel. Their profiles sound different yet similar enough to be an entertaining match :P Or maybe not...but, hey, I'm not a professional matchmaker!
Thanks for the chance and the original event, it was fun!

Match: not sure about a date, but maybe Ayla and Josephine (Christi Whitney) could be friends?

Tomas Caraway with Keldra. They must be kindred spirits since both their (fantasy if I was an animal) animal are majestic birds.

Tomas has no job at the moment, so he is free to help Keldra with her "freighter" business. He also seems a bit depressed and serious. Keldra sounds like a very pragmatic person as well.

Also for Keldra, it is always good to have a bodyguard when you are afraid of death. Plus Tomas must know all the good inns/pubs since he spends a lot of time near them.

Many thanks to everyone who's entered the giveaway so far! I've really enjoyed all the different suggestions :-)

Since some of the authors participating in the event only joined a few days ago, the deadline for entry has been extended until the end of the month. So I'll announce the winner at the beginning of March.
